Backing choice

arc edition offers a wide range of durable backings. These are divided into a primary and secondary backing. The primary backing is the foundation and delivers structural stability. The secondary backing adds a durable touch to your carpet. Combined the backing provides both sound insulation and thermal stability.

There are two types of backing:

Primary backing

Primary carpet backings are the foundation of the tufted carpet. They provide long-term structural stability and form retention. There are 2 types of primary backing.

Woven: is known for its excellent tuft lock, small needle deflection and standard dimensional stability.
Non-woven PP or PES: is known not to fray, has excellent adhesion, no bowing and a dimensional and thermal stability.

Secondary backing

The secondary carpet backing is applied in the final stage of the production process. There are 2 types of secondary backing.

Ultratex: a luxury felt backing that offers great comfort and better sound absorption
Action Back: a woven synthetic backing that is easy to handle during installation.

A coating of latex is applied to both the tufted dyed carpet’s primary backing and the secondary backing of your choice. They are squeezed together in a large heated press, where they are held firmly together to preserve their shape.

In Choose to Create we finish standard on high-quality secondary woven Action Back. This is certified fire resistance Bfl-s1 (if glued) in accordance with EN 13501-1.
